Bell Vayle

The heel of Dreaver teeters upon the cusp of the ocean, diminished. Where once a sloping ribbon of red-gold sand stretched, and where two rocky buttresses of headland thrust out in a gaping embrace, there is nothing but water. Thrashing, foaming, shrieking water; it sweeps an undulating blanket over the little beach, and pounds tight fists into the ravine once abundant in vegetation. The cliffs are steadily being eroded by the tide that refuses to retreat; when occasionally the water does shrink back a little, monstrosities are revealed. Seaweed sprawls as thick as hair, strange fish lie with their sour bellies open to the gulls; and the rotting hulk of a huge, bizarre bird of metal and glass basks with its round nose buried in the sand and its flat, rigid wings thrust out upon either side.
The Lights of Bell Vayle dwell at the mouth of the ravine where a short beach of shoal has formed, surrounded by twisted trees.
